why would you be that stupid?

I know I know I owe you a few posts. Its been a bit hectic around here. I finally got my new office cleaned and set up - well I have a desk and a chair and a lamp so all the essentials. For some reason they can't get my phone line to work but the guy is coming back out Thursday night.

I am getting quiet excited I had a little orientation call earlier today and can't wait to start. I also found out that I am allowed to help out in my current job until he hires someone or my patients are finished.

For a minute last week it looked like he had someone. I was working as a nurse as our nurse was on vacation and I checked in the dad of one of my former coworkers. I asked him how she liked her new job and he said she hadn't started it to which I replied to bad she doesn't want to work here. Well he must have told her as she called the Doc mere hours later. So by Wednesday they made her an offer and it looked like she'd start Monday. This would have been great, while she is not my favorite person she does know the ropes and my patients would have been okay. However, by Thursday she had not called back and when the Doc called her at home he was told she is busy now and can't talk to him ???????? Anyhow she hadn't called by Friday and Monday I told them I can stay and finish out my patients. Then today I heard from the office manager that that chick called Tuesday afternoon and wanted to talk to the Doc or my boss - but the Doc is on vacation and according to the office manager the job is no longer open anyway. I just don't get why she'd screw herself this badly. I mean if you call someone for a job and they offer it to you - you don't just not call them back for a week! Besides the other job she had gotten was in research to but as an assistant - she never even told them she had worked here or used the Doc as a reference - why???? I mean his reference and letter of recommendation helped get me my job and his name is well know in the research community. She is young if research is what she wants to do then she shouldn't slam the door on him. We'll see how this plays out.

In other news I am almost ready to turn our stuff over to the tax people which is huge for me normally I don't get this far until the first of April. Which would be good as Grumpy's car wont start unless you push it and mine died on me 3 times yesterday on the way to work. He is going to get an "new(er)" car with the return leaving me with the SUV in case my car dies.

Am I evil .... Yes I am

So you all know the Metallica song Am I evil right????? The chorus goes like

Am I Evil?
Yes I am
Am I Evil?
I am man, yes I am

So I am sure you are wondering why I am bringing this up. Well because its been bussing in my head since last night.

Not sure if I bitched about some of the new lazy waitresses we have gotten but they suck, their work ethic sucks ... . Anyhow I was working with one of them last night. It was me, one of the other waitresses that is good Ms M and Ms Lazy.
Anyhow I got there last (always do since I work till 4 in the office) so Ms M takes me aside and tells me the Ms Lazy had been waiting for her in the parking lot and flagged her down as she was getting out of her car. Ms Lazy said that she heard that I and my scottish friend have been saying that she is not doing her side work. (She was written up for such a thing by the daytime manager last week). Ms M. told her that yes indeed there were problems in the last few weeks with new people not doing their side work and she should always ask someone to be sure she did what she was supposed to. So the night goes on and we are super busy. I ended up asking Ms M if it was indeed Tuesday and not Friday. I made mainly lousy tips except for a lesbian couple that just loves my appletinis and they always tip me very well - Grumpy says its because they like the way I walk. I still walked out with $150 despite the $4 and $8 tips I mainly had.
So the night winds down and I am trying to get my checks for a big table that insisted on paying separate as I overhear Ms Lazy saying she was going to mop the bar and bathroom and stock the beer and wine. Which is okay those where the side works assigned to her station. Well Ms. M comes over and tells me that Ms Lazy had asked her what she should do - to which Ms M replied she needed to ask me because all the side work was to be split between her and me. Ms Lazy shook her head and refused. I mean I didn't care that I had to do the majority of the sidework (clean the bar and bathroom and the patio) because I had tables in those to sections. Granted had I worked with someone else they would have offered to split the work more evenly but ... So while I am still cleaning and helping the poor busboy resetting the tables Ms Lazy sits down to eat and then left. I hear Ms M ask the owner why he let her leave - her section wasn't set up. I ask Ms M if the bathroom floor was clean (I knew it wasn't because I had just been there to clean) - and she said no it wasn't. So I ended up mopping that too - with a smile.

Now she was being just an idiot - knowing that someone was on her case and not doing her shit anyways - but you still don't know why I am evil right?
Remember how I said in this post (#8) that when crossed I can border on evil. Well she crossed me and here is what makes me evil - she did make however make it very easy.

When I cleaned the bathrooms I made sure that one of the pieces of paper she didn't clean up were right there to be seen. And then made sure Ms M went in under the eyes of the owner to find that in deed she did not clean it. After sweeping and moping the bathrooms I showed the "findings" to the owner to make my point. I also went to get lunch from the restaurant today where I mentioned to our daytime manager the happenings of last night and to please not schedule us together as she is clearly not capable of working together which is essential especially when we are that busy. I also told her she left it to us, the owner and his wife to set up the tables and ensure the busboy is not there till midnight! Well I am pretty sure this chicks days are numbered but seriously she made it way to easy on me. I mean you don't go around accusing me of being unfair to you, then refuse to help out in the clean up and get away with it. If someone accuses me not of doing something I'd make sure to get it done the next time but no not this chick- I am back on the schedule with her on Saturday so it should be interesting if she is still even around then.

some people ....

Alright so after my meeting was over this morning I hoped in the shuttle to the airport to get my car. I was still starving since breakfast was horrible. Once I got my rental (a cute dodge caliber) I headed on to Fort Myers. I was trying to decide where to stop when I saw a sign for Olive Garden. Yes I know its not the best but after 3 days of yucky food it sounded good. I do like their Bruschetta ( not as good as ours of course) and I love their Mushroom Ravioli. So I enjoyed my lunch, took my time had some cappuchino while reading my book (not that I was procrastinating getting to my mothers ...). the drive was uneventful and she picked me up from the airport after I dropped of the rental. I always drive her when I am here so she gave me the keys and off we went. It was about 5ish and I had suggested to hit a restaurant since my dinner would be paid for by the company. Well she wanted to go to her friends to play Domino. So we drove to the Island and then she gave me a bicycle to ride (Now mind you I had now time to change, eat or drink) in my flip flops!!! So we get to this "house" and everyone introduces themselves to me. This younger lady (about 40ish I'd say) introduces this kid to me. "THIS IS ... WE ADOPTED HER FROM RUSSIA" now mind you the girl is about 8 or nine. Cute as a button and I was kind of like okay??? I figured maybe she just got here and that's why they introduced her like that. So they teach me to play domino which was kind of fun. The kid was helping me which was cool I liked her but her mother kept telling her to leave and watch TV?!??!?!??!!? WTF why would you bring a kid to an adult game and not let her be there. We didn't mind. It was about 9pmish when I finally asked my mother if she planned on feeding me. There was no drinks or food at this game (1pm was the last time I had drank and ate something) and I just couldn't stand it any longer. I got some disgusting tea from that wired adoption lady and a piece of soso cake. So as we were done that lady kept talking about the kid and the adoption and stuff like that - with the kid right there! Now I just met this person and she keeps talking about the girl like a prized piece of jewelry. I just wanted to slam my hand on the table and ask her if she loved her daughter or just considered her an ornament. I mean you should have heard the way she talked ... and her husband just sat there. Turns out they had her since she was a baby and then she went on telling us that the interpreter said her mother was young and couldn't handle her, and they didn't know who the father was and in this derogatory tone I just wanted to smack her. The kid was there - listened to all of this and apparently not the first time. On the way home my mom asked me my impression and I told her - she agreed with my observation and noted that our host has the suspicion that while the kid is taken care of in the financial view she is not getting the love she deserves. It is obvious that her parents don't play with her she must have asked me ten times if I was going to be here tomorrow and if she could see me. Argggg I am going to have to bite my tounge around that lady big time tomorrow. (I made the pic blurry and B/W on purpose as I do not think they'd like her picture on here but you can still make out that she is a cutie and she was so well behaved.

Airtran got it right

I know it is usually Bubs that lets us know about news but I thought this was worth sharing.

This Boston couple is complaining that they were asked to leave the plane after they were unable to get their kid under control and in the seat so the plane could take of. The 3 yr old girl decided to rather sit on the floor and throw a tantrum. After the plane was already 15 min late the family was asked to leave. I think that was awesome. The family got their money back and 3 round trip tickets but they are still bitching - and will never fly Airtran again

THANK GOD!!!! LETS HOPE THEY NEVER FLY US AIR (my main airline)!!!!!

Click here for the full article

I fly a lot and I hate the kicking and screaming kids. I understand the flying thing can freak them out and the pressure change can hurt their ears but there are things you can do to prevent that.

  • Okay first of you can make some tea (fennel and chamomile to calm the kid - works wonders and its all natural and drug free unlike using benadryl which works too).
  • get some new toys, color books what ever the kid is into and do not show them until your in your seat
  • stay calm occupy them do not read or sleep and ignore them
  • and have some hard candy so they swallow continuously while the plane takes off with that easing the pressure on their ears
So how do I know this works - well thats what my mom did and thats what I'll do. I have also observed this in passengers with kids. I have no problems with kids being kids on planes but there are ways to divert their attention but it takes some work from the parents to ensure everyone has a great flight.

Stupid news of 2006

I just got this via email from my scottish friend. I had to post it.

THESE ARE NOT THE DARWINS BUT CLOSE. FROM WALT IN SAN DIEGO
.

STUPID CONTEST

Subject: Candidates For 2006

As Ron White often says : " You can't fix stupid." These people prove it is a terminal condition. As always, competition this year has been keen.

The candidates this year are....

Eighth Place
In Detroit , a 41-year-old man got stuck and drowned in two feet of water after squeezing head first through an
18-inch-wide sewer grate to retrieve his car keys.

Seventh Place
A 49-year-old San Francisco stockbroker, who "totally zoned when he ran," accidentally jogged off a 100-foot
high cliff on his daily run.

Sixth Place
Buxton , NC
: A man died on a beach when an 8-foot-deep hole he had dug into the sand caved in as he sat inside it.. Beach-goers said Daniel Jones, 21, dug the hole for fun, or protection from the wind, and had been sitting in a beach chair at the bottom Thursday afternoon when it collapsed, burying him beneath 5 feet of sand. People on the beach, on the outer banks, used their hands and shovels, trying to claw their way to Jones, a resident of Woodbridge , VA , but could not reach him. It took rescue workers using heavy equipment almost an hour to free him while about 200 people looked on. Jones was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Fifth Place
Santiago
Alvarado, 24, was killed in Lompoc , CA , as he fell face-first through the ceiling of a bicycle shop he was burglarizing. Death was caused when the long flashlight he had placed in his mouth (to keep his hands free) rammed into the base of his skull as he hit the floor.

Fourth Place
Sylvester Briddell, Jr., 26, was killed in Selbyville , Del, as he won a bet with friends who said he would not put a revolver loaded with four bullets into his mouth and pull the trigger.

Third Place

The following mind-boggling attempt at a crime spree in Washington , DCappeared to be the robber's first (and last), due to his lack of a previous record of violence, and his terminally stupid choices:
1. His target was H&J Leather &Firearms; A gun shop specializing in handguns.
2. The shop was full of customers - firearms customers.
3. To enter the shop, the robber had to step around a marked police patrol car parked at the front door.
4. A uniformed officer was standing at the counter, having coffee before work. Upon seeing the officer, the would-be robber announced a hold-up, and fired a few wild shots from a target pistol.
The officer and a clerk promptly returned fire, the police officer with a 9mm GLOCK 17, the clerk with a 50 DESERT EAGLE, assisted by several customers who also drew their guns, several of whom also drew and fired. The robber was pronounced dead at the scene by Paramedics. Crime scene investigators located 47 expended cartridge cases in the shop. The subsequent autopsy revealed 23 gunshot wounds. Ballistics identified rounds from 7 different weapons. No one else was hurt in the exchange of fire.

HONORABLE MENTION
Paul Stiller, 47, was hospitalized in Andovertownship, NJ, and his wife Bonnie was also injured, when a quarter- stick of dynamite blew up in their car. While driving around at 2 AM, the bored couple lit the dynamite and tried to toss it out the window to see what would happen, but apparently failed to notice the window was closed.

RUNNER UP: TACOMA , WA .
Kerry Bingham had been drinking with several friends when one of them said they knew a person who had bungee-jumped from the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in the middle of traffic. The conversation grew more heated and at least 10 men trooped along the walkway of the bridge at 4:30 AM. Upon arrival at the midpoint of the bridge they discovered that no one had brought a bungee rope.

Bingham, who had continued drinking, volunteered and pointed out that a coil of lineman's cable lay nearby. One end of the cable was secured around Bingham's leg and the other end was tied to the bridge. His fall lasted 40 feet before the cable tightened and tore his foot off at the ankle. He miraculously survived his fall into the icy salt water and was rescued by two nearby fishermen. "All I can say" said Bingham, is that God was watching out for me on that night.
There's just no other explanation for it." Bingham 's foot was never located.

AND THE WINNER...
Overzealous zookeeper Friedrich Riesfeldt (Paderborn , Germany) fed his constipated elephant Stefan 22 doses of animal laxative and more than a bushel of berries, figs and prunes before the plugged- up pachyderm finally let it fly, and suffocated the keeper under 200 pounds of poop! Investigators say ill-fated Friedrich, 46, was attempting to give the ailing elephant an olive oil enema when the relieved beast unloaded on him. "The sheer force of the elephant's
unexpected defecation knocked Mr. Riesfeldt to the ground where he struck his head on a rock and lay unconscious as the elephant continued to evacuate his bowels on top of him" said flabbergasted Paderborn police detective Erik Dern. With no one there to help him, he lay under all that dung for at least an hour before a watchman came along, and during that time he suffocated. It seems to be just one of those freak accidents that proves..."Shit happens."

Busy?!

Oh man where to start. The weekend was pretty crazy. Friday night my friend Danielle came but the Restaurant and after eating we headed out to Phillys. Well its actually called the Sandbar now (stupid name since there is no Sand anywhere!). Grumpy used to work there and that's how we met, Danielle and I would go there almost every night. I like it, its one of those hole in the wall places where locals hang vs the meat markets. Here I can go in my work cloths and don't need to get all dressed up and no one hits on me which is something I can not stand. Flirt with me fine but get your damn hands off me. Anyhow that's why I like Phillys. We played a little bit of pool and then just hung out. As we are getting older we need more sleep so we left a little after midnight to go on home. I stayed up a bit longer reading my latest Sookie Stackhouse book (thanks Phos I needed another series!!!!!) and then hopped in the sack. Sleeping in wasn't an option as I had to do an orientation with a new au pair arrival at 10am. After that it was of the office so I could try to get squared away for Monday. After making lunch at home I finished my book and got ready for work. I worked 4 shifts last night and made less money than the week before it was soooooo slow. I didn't have any really nice or really strange people to serve and the only drama Saturday night came from the waitstaff. We have this new girl that is making her self a lot of enemies with her gossiping and lies. She even lies about her lies!!!! She walked up to B. and tells her they need to work out their problems?!!??!? B. is Scottish and has a temper but is nice. She wont tolerate lies though and this waitress has told quit a few involving B. SO I decided I better get out of dodge since that wasn't gonna be pretty. See B. is the type of person that laughs with you if you call her a Bitch to her face but if you do it behind her back your dead meat. That is one of the reasons we are best friends we both do not like bullshit. Anyhow I left to go to get my next book just to find out that the latest one is not out in paperback yet. The hardcover is to hard to move around with so I shopped around for another and found "Every which way but dead" by Kim Harrison. Its funny with weres, pixies, witches and of course vampires. Oh I just wanted to point out I read the Sookie books (all except the last one) within 2 weeks that's how good they are. I am not sure where with 4 jobs and school I found the time but I did read all 5 of them!!!!!
Sunday was pretty low key. Cleaned a bit, watched the soap I tape, did homework and I had to work at Busch at night where I was bored out of my mind. Called security twice, once for a lot valet someone gave me and then for a 12 yr old boy that lost his friends. We couldn't reach his friends so called his dad. After seeing how the parents were with him I can see why he'd wanted to get lost. Some people should not have kids!!!! The night eventually ended and I fell into bed knowing I wanted to get to work early.
Monday sucked. I wasn't out of the bathroom yet when my cell started to ring. It was one of the au pairs and I called her on the way to the office to tell her to email me since I didn't have time to be on the phone all morning. When I got in 1 of my patient was already waiting. I needed some more results but couldn't get through to the lab, the 2 more show up to be seen by me. I am already spinning my wheels.

This is the office parking lot at about 8:45am on Monday. One of the patients tripped outside and most likely broke his leg - the one we were treating for infection - trying to prevent it from being amputated.

Of course all that puts us behind on the schedule. I also had a monitor from one of the Pharmaceutical Company here not being able to do much she needed as I get two more patients and then my doc calls me in a room to screen a patient for my naive study. That was about 1pm and I had not had breakfast or even a cup of water. So I take the patient back, who just found out that he is HIV+ so he is understandably upset. I do my "the world is not over speech" try to calm him to the point where he can read and understand the consent form. Get him signed up to get his blood drawn. After I give him his return appointment I go see what I can do for the monitor. She was nice enough to get me a bagel with egg salad which I devour while doing the corrections she needs. By now it is after 3pm and I need to process the labs from the 5 people I saw which came for 5 different studies which translates into 4 different labs that I am going to have to send the blood to after I process it. I didn't finish the processing part until after 4pm (which is my normal time to leave even thou that rarely happens). I still had not sat down to catch my breath and still calls kept coming. The jail needed some stuff on one of my patients because they were getting audited and needed paperwork showing he was on the study when he went in and had to stay on it because he needed the meds which were not commercially available. I clocked out at 5:20pm with a migraine in process. I got home hoping for a nap and got comfy on grumpys lap. As you can see Cleo demanded attention from a tired me. Misty came by later but Grumpy was cooking dinner so he couldn't take pictures of her laying on my legs trying to make me feel better. and then that damn cell phone rang again. Grumpy got up to make dinner while I took a cat nap. I tried to do the case study but just gave up at midnight and went to bed. I am hoping to get out of the restaurant Early tonight so I can finish it then. Well today has been really low key with the doc out of town and me just catching up on stuff.

Freak

I love Karma and no matter how often I doubt it I always comes through for me - making me a believer. Today was a pretty mellow day. I didn't get out of bed until almost 11. Then did some cleaning and read some more in my book while watching TV. It was great no homework and I didn't have to be anywhere. I called up to Busch to be sure I am truly not on the schedule for tomorrow and to find someone that could help me get 4 more discount tickets. I am meeting one of my coworkers tomorrow before she goes into work tomorrow morning at Busch to get the. After that I got a call from one of the au pairs wanting to meet me to talk - I am hoping it won’t be another situation where I have to find a new family/au pair but I'll find out tomorrow. At least I will be right down the road from her at Busch and don't have to go out of my way.

I got to work and was working my usual section and my first table was a total freak. This was some Latin dude that at first I thought was a friend of the owner but he turned out to be a stray. He was totally wired and soooo talkative. He ordered a Tortellini soup and Cheese Tortellini and had a couple of beers. The owner started to get really bothered by the guys need to talk to himself and everyone around and told me to get him out of there. The dude even wanted to pay the bill for a table next to him. After he got his bill we still didn't leave. He asked if he could buy half a box of equal?!?!?!?! Anyhow after quite some time he finally did leave and the night moved on. He did leave me a decent tip but sorry no amount of money is going to make me want to put up with some strung out weirdo.

I got decent tables that all left me 20% or more percent so I was cool. My section was full when I saw the same dude walking in the door again?!?!?!?!?! This time the owner put him on the patio and the 2 waiters out there were arguing about who'd have to put up with him this time. He ate the same thing again???? This time however he was not as talkative to us as he brought a buddy.

Except for my last 3 tables I did really well. One of them had a gift certificate. I even pointed out to her when I gave her the credit card slip for what was left after the gift certificate that the bill was $63 and $13 where left. Well she left me $7!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The other table got 2 free desserts because their dinner took awhile as we where busy. This was over $10 worth of stuff but they only left me 15% of their bill (not on the desserts too). The other table left me 15% as well. But anyhow all in all I still did better than last night and it was good to know it was not my service but the people that earned me lousy tips. Dinner tonight was one of my favs. Spaghetti with Piccata sauce. One of my tables had ordered this drink called “mattress?” and I had never heard of it so when she told me how to make it, it sounded good enough to try. After leaving the restaurant I gave into one of my coworkers who had been asking me to hang out with her and one of the other girls for months and we went to a new bar up the road. There I ended up arguing with the bar owner about the fact that there is no such thing as a double bock that is a wheat beer. I am sorry there are dark wheat beers but a double bock is a totally different type of beer. I think if you own a bar and are going to sell beer in it you should know the basics about beer. Anyhow I better head to bed, Grumpy is off tomorrow and hopefully I get done with all my stuff (I have to interview a new family too) in time to maybe head back to the beach with the pups.

Puppy photos

THIS POST IS EDITED/UPLOADED USING MY CELL SO EXCUSE THE SPELLING/GRAMMAR Originally uploaded by dino0477.
So after a annoying and stress full day at the office - which started with finding out one of my reseach subjects is in ICU on a vent, and came up positive for Coke (idiot!!!!) and ended with me having to give myself an injection as part of training for a device (I HATE NEEDLES AND ANY TYPE OF INJECTION DEVICE) I decided the day was to nice to be inside and do homework. SO I took my book and moved onto my patio where I was trying to read. I am saying trying because the puppies kept trying to convince me to play with them and I gave in a few times. So here are some pics of the "babies" (BTW Mac is a head taller than me standing up - I am 5'7)

You are kidding right?!?!?!?

So having 4 jobs has its advantages, for one I meet tons of nutty people that I can write on here about.

So I was at my day job (I work for a doctor doing clinical research) today when our receptionist called overhead saying she has a letter for me. This is not unusually as I get a lot of stuff all day long so I just ignored her and went on with what I was doing.
Not to much later she came to my desk with the letter. I did not recognize where it was from but the last name was the same as that of one of my former study patients. It was addressed to me but my first and last name was hopelessly misspelled. So I open it up and find a Money order made out to me (misspelled of course) / clinical research and a note to please use it towards any outstanding bills for the above mentioned patient.
Now I am totally confused. I never deal with money, one perks of being on a study is your treatment is free. So I hand it to our receptionist and tell her just to give it to the office manager as she handles the billing.

A little later I call the patient in question and tell him about the letter. He goes like "Oh yeah I meant to talk to you about that." I remind him that I do not handle money. He says "no its not for that. I owe money on a credit card bill and my parents would not give me the money so I had them made it out to you. I need you to cash it and keep whatever and give the rest to me." I was like WHAT????? Then the phone was cut off.

I am like WTF. I go and tell the office manager and she says to check with the Doc. He says lets just send the letter back to the guys parents in PA. Which I did with a nice note stating there where no outstanding bill that the money could be used for.

I still can't get over the fact this guy wanted me to help him to commit fraud!!!!! Dude next time make sure the person is willing to help you and spell the name right, I mean I could not have cashed the thing had I wanted too with the way it was misspelled.

So my question to you is what would you have done?
