Karma?
Okay so I believe you do to others as you'd like them to you. Last night I had a table that used a coupon card. With those cards we always add the tip (18%) which I did. They had given me cash and I returned the change to them and they got up to leave. When I went to the table to I noticed they had left me $25 . I noticed they were still in the parking lot so I went outside and told them while I appreciated the extra tip I didn't think they realized that an 18% tip had already been added because they used a coupon. The guy thanked me and gave me $5 for my honesty and went on. I believe it was the right thing to do. I mean yeah I could have had 20 extra bucks and if they had not been in the parking lot I would not have felt bad about it but they were so I did the honorable thing. Anyhow most to the staff said I was being a idiot and should have just taken the extra money. What do you think?
Right now I am hoping for the rain to stop. I have the host family conference this afternoon - a picnic in the park. I rented a picnic shelter and so far am out $100 and it doesn't look like the rain is letting off. This sucks because I need at least 10 families to attend to make back the $100. So far only one said they are coming despite the rain.

I'm here by way of Dan's blog.
Tough call on the tip.
I was in the service industry for many years. While I think it would have been perfectly acceptable to keep the 25 dollars,I also think that you did the right thing by bringing it to the customer's attention. If for no other reason than I'm sure they will remember the honesty, and return many times in the future because of it..
Sling - welcome to my blog. Yeah the whole talking positive about it is what I thought about too. I mean I'd be furious if I found out the waitress had added the tip and I tipped her too and she just kept it.
I agree...I'd have been honest too. The $$ you gave them back should come back to you three-fold (that's 75 bucks)! Hopefully, soon! lol
:-D
Jin - we'll see right now i am having to pay taxes so its like money going out threefold
you are on honest soul and it WILL come back to you. Not many people would have been that honest...myself uncluded! ;)
good for you!
Beth - thanks I'll keep my fingers crossed.
I admire your honesty on the tip, and I'm glad they acknowledged it by giving you something extra.
Good luck with the rain. It's hard to enjoy a rainy day when you have something planned for outdoors, and you've got money on the line as well.
If you'd have kept the $20 you'd only be out $80.
You did the right thing, though and those people will think the best of you because of it. Goodwill is worth more then money.
Phos - yeah I guess but I'd rather get the good karma
it was raining here today too! weird!
as for returning the tip- i am impressed and it was indeed the right thing to do! you made yourself and the restaurant look good!!!
Angel - thanks :0)
