Pen Pal?

So I was goofing of at the office (the Doc is skiing) when I came across this article. Of course I had to check out the site mentioned just to be nosy. While I understand that these guys are lonely and want a pen pal (well in this case more like the x-rated version) my question is would you really want them to have your address????? I mean what if they get out - you can write the most beautiful poem and still be some psychopath. Na I think I stick to sending funny cards to our troops overseas. They tend not to write back but at least the chance of some lunatic showing up at my door are slimmer.
The other odd thing is the article is from Bangkok but the guys are in prison here???????

Creeeeeepy!

I really really want to see that site, but I kind of think I should wait until I'm at home to click on it.

They always have those weird stories on shows like 20/20 and Dateline with women who marry prisoners. I don't get it, but I find it oddly intriguing.

Jin - yeah I saw a couple that were nice to look at too but I'd never contact them even if I was desperate and single

To a jailbird the pen pal letters and photos they get from fudge-brained women provide (in addition to the obvious masturbation aids) status to fellow prisoners. Plus if they're lucky they can work the girls for money, cigarettes and favors outside the joint.

I'm always amazed at women (and men) who go for jailbirds. There's a guy named Mark Anthony Lewis (inmate #R25709, you can look him up here: http://www.idoc.state.il.us/subsections/search/inms.asp)

who was on one of those prison pen pals sites. He's a truly evil man, and his profile talked about him being a sensitive Christian, etc etc ad nauseum.

God what some people won't fall for.

Bubs - yeah that would be my concern just like with the "normal" online dating sites you have no idea what those people lie about. Hey that Lewis fellow his parole date is 01/09/2195 - at least he wouldn't show up on anyones doorstep

Good call on the psycho poet - I think Charley Manson is a song writer. Not someone you'd want to be "parking" with in a secluded moonlit spot.

So I had to check it the website..You're right, how weird is that.

Loved their Valentine's Message (see below) and I also loved the "Inmate Removed or Released" Caption on some of the blanks.

February 12, 2007 -- We have scoured the prison floors and checked each bunk bed, both top and bottom, looking for the men that you have dreamed about writing, but just didn't know where to find them -- until now! Don't have a Valentine yet? Well you do now! Happy Valentine's day!!!
